First thing I thought of when planning a party was food. mmm… (like all good parties) The colour the tastes that remind me that it’s getting just that little bit cooler. Oh, then weather, it’s still warm enough to be outside but not with out the temptation of lighting a crackling fire and soft cuddly blankets as the evening progresses.
So this is my inspiration
The autumn season in Australia is still fairly mild and we definitely get a great choice of fruit and vegetables, this menu is based on all around the scrumptious seasonal best I can get my hands on. Here is a little guide that I will be following
apples, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, figs, grapes, lemons, limes, honeydew melon, rockmelon, watermelon, nashi, nectarines, oranges, passionfruit, peach, pears, persimmons, plums, pomegranate, quinche, rhubarb
Asparagus, Asian greens, Beans, beetroot, broccoli, cabbages, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, daikon, eggplants, garlic, kohlrabi (green), leek, lettuces, mushrooms, okra, onions, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, shallots, silver beet, snow peas, spinach, spring onions, squash, sweet corn, tomatoes, turnips, zucchini
I didn’t think all that long about this, it came to me like some sort of vision… no not really…more like the second they come into season I can not resist.. I’m talking about FIGS! So yummy and easy and fun to cook with, but truly the colours of figs are just beautiful. I think the colour combination is almost romantic.
Autumn to me is a little bit rustic, forest floor, woodland creatures. Also just honest, nothing to out there, a bit subdued, just lovely.
