There is a little hint as to what I am having…

Planning a Party – Autumn inspired

First thing I thought of when planning a party was food. mmm… (like all good parties) The colour the tastes that remind me that it’s getting just that little bit cooler. Oh, then weather, it’s still warm enough to be outside but not with out the temptation of lighting a crackling fire and soft cuddly blankets as the evening progresses.

So this is my inspiration

The autumn season in Australia is still fairly mild and we definitely get a great choice of fruit and vegetables, this menu is based on all around the scrumptious seasonal best I can get my hands on.  Here is a little guide that I will be following

apples, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, figs, grapes, lemons, limes, honeydew melon, rockmelon, watermelon, nashi, nectarines, oranges, passionfruit, peach, pears, persimmons, plums, pomegranate, quinche, rhubarb

Asparagus, Asian greens, Beans, beetroot, broccoli, cabbages, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, daikon, eggplants, garlic, kohlrabi (green), leek, lettuces, mushrooms, okra, onions, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, shallots, silver beet, snow peas, spinach, spring onions, squash, sweet corn, tomatoes, turnips, zucchini

I didn’t think all that long about this, it came to me like some sort of vision… no not really…more like the second they come into season I can not resist.. I’m talking about FIGS! So yummy and easy and fun to cook with, but truly the colours of figs are just beautiful. I think the colour combination is almost romantic.

Autumn to me is a little bit rustic, forest floor, woodland creatures. Also just honest, nothing to out there, a bit subdued, just lovely.

My inspiration…

Ultimate Summer Salsa

I served this as a side dish for four, along side a slow cooked beef burrito

1 tablespoon finely chopped coriander

1 tablespoon finely chopped basil

1 teaspoon finely chopped chives

1/2 a red onion also finely chopped

1 punnet mixed cherry tomatoes diced

2 corn on the cob, shaved off

1/2 a mango diced, and 1/2 to enjoy

Lightly grill the corn on the barbecue, or girdle pan.

Don’t be afraid of the little black lines here and there.

Once cooked through shave off the kernels.

Mix all ingredients together, season to taste

Add a nice big squeeze of lime juice and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

i am so very late…

white rabbit

Ever fell like time is just running away from you,

You hope to achieve so much, but, in actual fact you’re getting very little done.

Who am I kidding I am sure everyone feels like that from time to time…

Sometimes, you just need to get the pocket watch (or mobile in this day and age) break it open, and smear some jam inside, just to stop that time from ticking…

Take a tea break (and I mean a long, well deserved tea break, use the huge tea cup this time)

Pissaladiéres anyone?

Hello everyone out there!

I disappeared for a little while, but I am back to tell you the tale.

I had been looking for work for a little while with little success, when along came an opportunity which I would have never thought of. I am now an apprentice chef, while some may say why, the pay is minimal and the work is rough, I believe it is an opportunity to get to were I want to while learning and enjoying something new.

I have always loved cooking and celebrating with food, I have put myself through days of planning and preparing and cooking to create the perfect event or party. So in a way I know I love cooking but just never thought of it as a job for myself. However, here I am today an apprentice chef looking forward to using my new skills and learning many more to achieve my goals and dreams.

So follow on to see yummy treats and delicious ideas for your next celebration.

Spring table settings

Take a hint from the world outside when setting your table this spring. Green is all around, use what you have, such as herbs, branches and leaves. Of course, flowers always make stunning table centres, but remember they don’t have to be large arrangements, a few flowers in a variety of bottles and vases will do the job nicely.

I am a firm believer that simple and elegant is best.

So go on and celebrate that spring has sprung.

Make your own stamps

Why not give making your own stamps a go!

They can be a little tricky and you do need a bit of patience, but with practice (and I still need some practice) you can make anything you like…

You may also need, (along with patience) some:

cheap plain erasers (get different sizes, the bigger the easier)

some carving tools

some sharp and small hobby knives

Make sure to write/draw any words and pictures backwards, that is especially important if you want them to turn out the right way when stamped😀.

Here are a few that I have made!

I love my little bird and bumblebee,

what do you think?

Spring = Flowers

I’m not normally very girly or floral person, however there is something that happens in spring that is just magical, here are some simple floral arrangements for you to try this spring.
